Allium carolinianum is a species of onion native to southern and central Asia. It is a herbaceous perennial plant with very dense globular umbel of pink color born on a stout stem of 10-30 cm long. It has long, flat and narrow leaves which are blunt and 4-12 mm broad. The plant resembles cultivated onion.
Uses:
The bulbs and leaves of the plant are used as flavoring material. When added to diet on regular basis, they help to reduce blood cholesterol and act as tonic to digestive system. But the consumption of Allium in large quantities is poisonous. The juice of the system is also used as moth repellant.
